Words aren't cutting it. Petitions and signs and parades aren't enough. We need a really powerful visual message, because most people just don't get it if they can't see it.
AI is a new group that allows a place for artists on DA (or anywhere, really) to submit artwork that supports equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people all over America, as well as provide a place where those who are willing to fight for equality can join together to do just that.
Here's the goal:
We gather 1000 pieces of artwork that represent both the struggles and joys of being part of the GLBT and all of the emotions that come with them. We want people to be able to SEE how it feels to be discriminated against and be treated as less than human, to have people look down on you and insult you just because of who you are - or, one the opposite end of the spectrum, see how happy we are living our lives as who we were meant to be.
When we have these 1000 pieces of artwork, we're going to bring them to Washington, DC. Art speaks in ways that words never can, and our art WILL be heard.
That's the basic plan. Details are still being worked out, but even those who can't get to DC can still submit their artwork, and of course you don't have to be GLBT to help out. Artwork from a straight artist's point of view is just as welcome. The first step is obviously getting that many pieces, so help out! Tell a friend! We need America to be able to see what inequality is doing to its victims, and the sooner, the better.
If you would like to submit any art or are interested on the eventual protest in DC, please send in a note.

To me, deviantART is more than just a gallery. It's where people come for support and love from one another in an artistic sense, and communal sense, and I fear we've lost sight of that.
And somehow, the best photographers seem to come from Canada.
